Exponential growth spurred by new rights deals as traditional sports cable networks
report massive subscriber declines
AUSTIN, TX — April 18, 2017 — FloSports, the innovator in live digital sports and original content, today announced its 2017 first quarter results. The company closed out its highest performing quarter to date with 92% year-over-year growth in net subscription cash.
In addition, FloSports announced the following quarterly results:
- Added nearly 20,000 subscribers per month
- Increased unique visitors by 48% year-over-year
- Grew its social media following by 50% to more than 2.2M network-wide
The record growth is supported by FloSports’ continued ability to secure event rights and deliver authentic coverage to fans. Since January, FloSports has signed more than 300 new rights deals and partnerships with key organizations, including the NCAA, Big 12 Conference, IBJJF, Premier Girls Fastpitch, Athletics Australia, and an eight-year deal with USA Wrestling through 2024.
The deals helped FloSports expand its live events coverage by 100% year-over-year and launch two new sports, racing and rugby. These additions bring the total number of sports the company covers to 24, including basketball, mixed martial arts, and many of the most popular Olympic Sports, such as gymnastics, swimming, and track.
“Our coverage is inspired by the passion of sports fans, who want uncompromising, authentic coverage,” FloSports co-founder and CEO Martin Floreani said. “Unlike cable-based networks, we have a direct relationship with our consumers, which gives us the ability to offer an unparalleled experience to our subscribers.
“That is really the secret behind our growth. Not simply that we’re delivering content digitally, how and where fans want to watch, but that we’re doing so with a level of depth that fans simply can’t find anywhere else. As cord-cutting continues, the opportunity for FloSports continues to grow. We’re proud of what we’ve done, and we’re excited about what lies ahead.”
FloSports’ growing and highly engaged audience base is capturing the attention of industry leaders and advertisers alike. During the quarter, FloSports worked with leading national brands, including T-Mobile and Quicken Loans, on various campaigns and engagement programs. Cynopsis Sports also named FloSports a finalist in the highly competitive OTT category of its sixth annual Sports Media Awards, where FloSports competed alongside fellow finalists WWE, MLBAM, NFL Media, the Olympic Channel, and Monumental Sports Network.
As traditional cable fights to save the TV bundle, FloSports will continue to transform the sports media industry and deliver the authentic sports content consumers want. Looking ahead, the brand expects to announce additional sports verticals, new rights deals, and the airing of additional events that will be critical to the company’s continued growth.
As part of a subscription to sites within the FloSports network, fans gain access to live coverage, original documentaries, technique videos and other premium content. Other content available to all users includes breaking news, weekly studio shows, highlights, athlete and team rankings, profiles, and more.
