The championship will feature the world’s top submission fighters competing for no-gi grappling’s most distinguished title on Sept. 22-24, 2017
AUSTIN, Texas — April 27, 2017 — FloSports, the innovator in live digital sports and original content, today announced a new agreement with the Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) to air the ADCC World Championships exclusively on FloGrappling.com. Held every two years, the highly prestigious, submission-only grappling competition will take place in Espoo, Finland, on Sept. 22-24, 2017.
The invite-only event will feature five men’s weight classes with 16 fighters, and two women’s weight classes with eight fighters, respectively. Additionally, there will be open class divisions for both men and women. The men’s open class division champion advances to a super fight in the next event.
This year’s ADCC World Championship super fights will feature:
- Open Weight Title Match: Andre Galvao (defending Super Fight Champion) vs Claudio Calasans (2015 Open Class Champion)
- Masters Super Fight #1: Chael Sonnen vs TBD
- Masters Super Fight #2: Renzo Gracie vs Matt Hughes
Invitations to compete in the ADCC World Championships require one of the following:
- Fighters must have competed in and won the qualifying event in their country.
- Fighters must be a defending champion or super fight champion.
- Fighters received a special invitation based on their outstanding grappling ability or they are a current top mixed martial arts star.
